Daily Dram: Lansig Marble

A tale of caution concerning a fate much worse than quicksand...

Lansig Marble was created by the gnomish transmuter, Lansig Goldale, the court wizard for the dwarf king Orim Bronzering. Lansig discovered a method to make marble semipermeable and viscous while at the same time retaining its original shape. As a precaution against thieves, Lansig installed this marble as flooring in the hallway leading to his private chambers.

The stone behaves as a thick mud, but the more one struggles, the deeper the down one travels. In the creation of the stone, an item can be attuned to turn the nearby stone back to solid marble while in close proximity. Lansig chose the necklace worn by the court wizard for this purpose so that only he may access his chambers.

Lansig Marble

Magical Stone, rare

Properties

Stone: Marble, Magic: Transmutation, Enchantment

Deactivation

A portion of the original stone.

Lansig Marble is a particularly nasty trap that can be found in areas wished to keep secure. The original enchanter retains a portion of the stone used separate, which a solidifying effect upon the Lansig Marble when in close proximity. These deactivation keys can be in any form, such as statues, beads, or simple raw fragments.

Swampfoot

Movement across Lansig Marble costs twice the normal movement.

Sinking feeling.

When a creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make a Strength Saving Throw. The DC for this saving throw is 15 plus the number of previous failed saving throws against this affect. Failure sets the creature's movement to 0, and it sinks 2 feet into the stone. Success sets the creature's movement to 10, and it sinks 1 foot into the stone.
